Roll over the questions...
Anything as long as you have the rights to sell it!
As soon as you upload your music and create the link,
then it’s active. We only deactivate links if sales for the last six
months are less than our threshold (£20) – this is so we can free up
space on our server and make it faster for everyone using the site.
You can only upload compressed music files – MP3, WMA,
AAC.
Yes, although you must have the songwriters permission to
sell their songs. You will be responsible for any payments to the
original songwriters.
Yes, and this is something we encourage! For us, artwork
is part of the music. Try and include a tracklisting with your artwork
as well. Artwork can be in any of the usual file types
As soon as you’ve uploaded your music, we will send you
a link for you to add to your own website/MySpace/email to fans etc.
Once you have this link, your fans can start downloading your music
straight away.
You can see how many sales you’ve made and the balance
of your account at any time by checking the statement section of your
account. Your statement is updated after each transaction.
Yes. BigSong are simply helping you to get your music to
your fans. You own the songs at all stages. You can take the link from
your website and close your account at any time.
You own the copyrights to the songs, so you’re free to
do whatever you like with the recordings. If the label doesn’t want to
use BigSong, then you’re free to take the link down. However, several
record labels like our service, so you may find that they want you to
keep reaching your fans through BigSong.
Unfortunately not at the minute. There’s a lot of
rules surrounding what can and can’t be considered for the charts, and
to stick to these rules would mean that BigSong can’t be as flexible
as we like.
Money
How much does it cost?
What price can I charge for
my music?
How much will I get for
each sale, and when will I get paid?
To set up an account and upload your music is absolutely
free! There are no set up costs and no monthly fees. We then pay you all
the money you earn from each transaction less our commission (20%) which
goes towards our bank and PayPal fees.
You can charge whatever you like! Although we currently have a minimum price as follows:
UK Pounds: 50p
Euros: 50c
US Dollars: 50c
to make sure that we cover all our bank charges.
You receive whatever price you’ve stated less a 20%
handling charge, again, this is so that we can cover all our bank
charges. We will pay you once a month, either direct to your bank or
PayPal account or we’ll send you a cheque. This is subject to our
minimum payment amount (currently £20/€20/$20)

Why is your service better
than selling my music through say, iTunes?
What if I need to amend any
data?
As you are selling your music directly to your fans, you
control what you sell to your fans and at what price. iTunes and other similar services
make you sell music on their terms. You also receive more per sale than
you would with any other website because you’re cutting out the middle
man.
You have full control over your music, so you can change
details at any time via your account.
